A History of Landscape Management Services in Grand Rapids

Dirk Bakhuyzen Jr. and his wife Phyllis fulfilled their dream of owning their own business by forming PROCARE Landscape Management Inc. in September 1989, Today, with hard work and the dedication of a core group of loyal employees, PROCARE Landscape Management Inc. has developed into a five division, full service landscape management company employing twenty five full time staff and from twenty to eighty seasonal employees.

An Introduction to the Core PROCARE Team

	Dirk Bakhuyzen, LEED AP Founder and President Dirk founded PROCARE Landscape Management Inc. in 1989 with his wife and family. He is the father to 5 children, grandfather to 6 grandchildren and husband to Phyllis for 32 years. Dirk’s primary role in the company is marketing, sales, customer relations and vision planning. He enjoys playing softball, fishing, camping, hunting and boating. Dirk also likes to read anything landscape related and business development books. His faith is important to him and he enjoys worshipping at Resurrection Life Church.
	Phyllis Bakhuyzen Founder and Secretary/Treasurer Phyllis is first and foremost a mother and grandmother. She loves her family and everything family related. A good day is spent on the pontoon boat idling down the Muskegon River with a grandchild (or 2) and if time, a good book. Phyllis does payroll for the company and sits in on family business meetings. She enjoys camping, boating (slow!), reading and crocheting.
	Dirk Bakhuyzen III Vice President with PROCARE since 1999 Dirk has worked for PROCARE since the start of the business. He worked part time summers and Saturdays all the way through college. He has been considered full time for 10 years. He enjoys his family of 3 boys and is married to Tricia. He loves to hunt, fish, play softball and boat at his summer campsite. He enjoys watching anything sports related. Dirk’s major work focus is customer service, financials, reviewing contracts and the general day-to-day business decisions.
	Kyle Bakhuyzen Vice President of Operations with PROCARE since 2001 Kyle has never had a different job other than at PROCARE Landscape Management Inc. He knows the operations from A-Z and understands what it takes to keep our crews moving while providing excellent service. Kyle is married to Jessica and they are the proud parents of daughter Rylie. Kyle likes to camp, mountain bike, fish, golf and watch football.
	Chris Thatcher Landscape Construction Manager with PROCARE since 1999 Chris supervises and assists our landscape construction crews. His responsibilities include scheduling, plant ordering, material ordering and making sure his crews have what is needed when they need it. He is married to Rachel and has a daughter. Chris enjoys spending time with his family, watching sports, golf and fishing.
	Bill Byl- Certified Arborist Tree Division Manager with PROCARE since 2001 Bill started with PROCARE Landscape Management Inc. right out of high school and has been promoted several times to his current position. He recently became a homeowner and is enjoying working on remodeling. His hobbies include golf, bowling, camping and snowboarding
	Marv DeGroot Account Manager with PROCARE since 2003 Marv started out as our Lawn Care (fertilizer, weed control, etc.) Technician and was promoted this year to Account Manager. Marv works with our mowing crews on efficiency and time accountability. He also provides equipment and technical support to these crews. Marv is married to Shelly and they have 4 teenage children. His hobbies are family, camping and golf.
	James Sheely Sales with PROCARE since 2009 James grew up in Caledonia, He and his wife, Jackie, have been married for four years. They have two children: Will, who is 2, Isla, who is 3 months old. James has 12 years of landscape experience, starting as a teenager on a mowing crew, and continuing through high school and college. He was a night supervisor for UPS during three of his college years. James began his sales career at Pella Windows and Doors, then moved to Grand-Craft Boat Company as director of sales and marketing. We are excited to have James join our Team
	Bryan Rude Irrigation Manager with PROCARE since 2007 Bryan does all of our irrigation service work. His service experience is extensive and customers benefit from his expertise. He likes to spend time with his son. He enjoys computers, snowmobiles, and dune buggies.
	Doug Herrema Tree Division Sales with PROCARE since 2007 Doug recently joined PROCARE Tree Service through the acquisition of his company. He has over 30 years of tree experience and we are happy to have his expertise. Doug has 5 children and is husband to Mary. Doug and Mary love God, people, and working together at Rhema House Ministries. Besides ministry, Doug loves to snow ski during the winter months.
	Christy Garner Co-Office Manager with PROCARE since 2000 Christy is one of our voices at PROCARE Landscape Management Inc. She job shares with Joy and between these two, they represent our company every time they answer the phone. Christy has been with PROCARE long enough to understand customer expectations. Christy is married to Mark and they have 2 children. Christy enjoys family time and weekends at her parent’s cottage.
	Joy Gorman Co-Office Manager with PROCARE since 2003 Joy has been a real asset to our company since coming on board in 2003. She is the daughter of Jerry Geerligs, whose company we purchased. She understands our industry and job shares with Christy. Joy is married to Paul and they have 3 children. Joy enjoys camping, biking and a good book.
